Haromaya Town Profile 


Haramaya district lies between 9009’-9032’N Latitude and 41^050’-42^005’ E Longitudes to the west of Harar town. It is bordered by Dire Dawa administrative council to the South kombolcha district to the North, Harari regional state to the East, Fadis district to the South East, Kurfachale district to the Southwest, and Kersa district to the west.



Haramaya has a total area of 521.63 km2, accounting for about 2.31% of the total area East Hararge zone. Its capital city, haramaya is about 19 km from Harar town to the west direction along Addis Ababa-Harar main road. The district has in general 33 peasant farmer associations and 4 urban dwellers namely Awaday Town, Bate Town, Haramaya Town, and Adele Town. Haramaya University one of the known institutions in east Africa also found in this woreda.


After 30 years of disappearance the lake regain its current positions as seen from the pictures it's creating lots of opportunities for local youth and becoming the only lake in the whole eastern oromia as well as Ethiopia.
